I keep telling myself that one of these days, I’ll get around to doing a year in review type blog post for 2015. It really was a big year in so many ways for me and I’m excited at the thought of capturing some of the triumphs, changes, struggles and amazing events of the year and sharing them here.
In the meantime, I just had to share about one of my absolute favorite parts of 2015, which was the Sip + Celebrate event I had to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of seek + be! It was a gathering of family, friends and my most loyal local customers. These ladies make my world go round; they inspire me to be a better woman and they have supported seek + be from the very start. I’m talking making jewelry tags by hand, stamping tiny letters one by one while sitting around my dining room table into the wee hours of the morning. Like, the VERY start!
These ladies are a part of everything I create. I love it when I’m working on a piece and catch myself thinking “What would Melanie love to wear?” or “What would make Donna feel amazing?” These beautiful and amazing ladies inspire the designs I create. They all embody the heart and spirit of the modern woman I’ve always envisioned wearing my jewelry. Seeing them in my pieces and watching them fall in love with their next favorite piece of seek + be jewelry is absolutely the most incredible part of what I do – it just fills my heart with pure joy!
I love seeing and hearing about their lives and the unique gifts that they bring to their families and community. I also love knowing that as women, we share some really incredible experiences and journeys in common. While I was thrilled to be celebrating the 2 year anniversary of seek + be, I really wanted this event to be more about celebrating the women that have encouraged and supported me in so many amazing ways.
I knew I wanted this celebration to be something different…something with a little more substance. I wanted a special event that would really help connect these women with each other, encourage some creativity and give them something that felt a little indulgent. I created a series of 3 different coloring pages with inspiring messages, to get those creative juices flowing. I also made cards with questions on them that encouraged deeper conversations. It was so fun watching people color the designs I created and to hear some of the great conversations that were happening!
When I thought about putting together the event, I really wanted something that would set it apart. Tea kept coming back to me as that little extra something special I could build everything else around. Thanks to an introduction from a friend, I connected with Andy Hayes of Plum Deluxe and let me tell you, the rest is history! While the ladies tried on jewelry, and snacked on delicious treats, they also indulged in some truly amazing locally crafted teas.
Andy worked on two custom blends just for the event and they were both amazing. We had an Earl Grey with Vanilla (heaven!) and a blend called Blood Orange Reflections (so yummy!) It was the exact little something extra special that I was looking for. If you are a tea lover like me, please do yourself and check out Plum Deluxe – Andy is delightful and the passion he has for his business can be seen in everything he does. Also, his tea is amazing…did I mention that?
If I’m being honest, I had no idea where creating seek + be would take me. All I knew is that it was a dream of mine for years leading up to that fateful day on November 11, 2013 when I finally decided to jump in head first and take this little hobby of mine and turn it into an official business. At that point in time, my chronic health issues were at some of their worst and I thought that by working for myself, I could rest and take the time that I need to heal while also doing what I loved.
Little did I know that in all reality, the first (nearly) year and a half of my business would be done in about 30 minute increments spread over days, weeks or months or as my pain and energy levels allowed. I went weeks and even months without making anything, without doing anything to grow my bright and shinny new business. It was a sobering reality and heartbreaking to see the dream I dreamt about for so long (seemingly) vanish before my eyes. But, incredibly, it didn’t vanish.
It didn’t vanish because of these women.
These women continued to encourage and support me, not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. They let me know they were rooting for me. They cheered seek + be on even though I had nothing to give them.
They are the reason that I am here…why seek + be is growing and thriving. They are the reason that I am able to dream big for 2016 and know that this year will bring amazing opportunities.
They are the reason seek + be made it to a second anniversary.
And they are the reason that seek + be will make it to a third anniversary this Fall.
Maybe we’ll have another tea event and maybe we won’t. Maybe there will be coloring pages, and maybe there won’t.
One thing is for sure…
I will definitely use the same pint sized raffle ticket picker. She totally stole the show – isn’t she the cutest?
